§ 34.02. DUTIES OF CHIEF; OFFICERS.

  • The Chief of Police shall have full control and supervision over all regular and temporarily appointed Police Officers, subject to the authority of the Mayor and City Council, and the Chief of Police shall be accountable to the Mayor and City Council for the proper and faithful performance of their duties. In the absence or inability of the Chief of Police, or during such hours of the day as the Chief may be off duty, the Chief’s powers and duties shall be exercised by the Chief’s designee. The Chief of Police shall be custodian of the Council Chambers, cause the same to be in order for all meetings of the City Council and attend all meetings of and execute all orders issued to the Chief by the City Council. In addition to the duties imposed by the laws of the State of Nebraska, it is hereby made the duty of the Police to arrest all offenders against the laws of the State or of the provisions of this Code and keep them in the City or County Jail or other safe and suitable places to prevent their escape until trial can be had before the proper tribunal.
