§ 73.23. RIDING NEAR CURB.

  • Any person operating a bicycle upon any road or street shall ride as near as practicable to the right- hand edge of the road or the right-hand curb except in the following circumstances:
    (A) Overtaking or passing another bicycle or vehicle proceeding in the same direction;
    (B) Preparing to make a left turn at an intersection or onto a private road or driveway;
    (C) When reasonably necessary to avoid conditions that make it unsafe to continue along the right- hand edge of the road or the right-hand curb; or
    (D) Lawfully operating a bicycle on the paved shoulders of a highway as follows.
    (1) Whenever a person operating a bicycle leaves the road to ride on the paved shoulder or leaves the paved shoulder to enter the road, the person shall clearly signal that intention and yield the right-of-way to all other vehicles.
    (2) Any person who operates a bicycle upon a highway shall not ride more than single file except on paths set apart for the exclusive use of bicycles, not to include the paved shoulders thereof.
